Posters made when a brand wanted you hungry, thirsty, or curious enough to step into the café. The illustrated food and drink poster ran for nearly a century, from the absinthe and aperitif campaigns of 1890s Paris through the Italian coffee, beer, and chocolate brands of the mid-twentieth century.

The collection spans the great categories and the great makers. Leonetto Cappiello's aperitif posters for Campari, Bouillon Kub, and Cinzano, which set the visual language for European drinks advertising. The Suchard, Tobler, and Cailler chocolate campaigns out of Switzerland. The Bovril, Cadbury, and Coleman's mustard posters of British grocery heritage. French wine merchant posters, Italian café signage, Belgian beer posters, the Guinness John Gilroy advertising work that ran for decades. American mid-century food advertising and the soda fountain era.

These were designed to make you walk in or pick up the bottle. Most were printed for shop windows, tram stops, and brasserie walls, and most are long gone. The ones that survived tell you what looked appetising for fifty years.
