Two chefs in crisp white uniforms balance triumphantly on bold yellow AXA letters, copper pots and frying pans in hand, a cube of margarine held high above their heads. The composition pulses with energy against a saturated red background.
Designed by Robys (Robert Wolff) for AXA margarine in 1934, commissioned by Société Astra to position their product as suitable for both cooking and the dining table. The tagline "Pour La Cuisine, Pour La Table" addressed French resistance to butter substitutes at a time when margarine was still viewed with suspicion.
The bilateral symmetry places the AXA package at the apex of a triangular structure, giving the product unmistakable prominence through pure geometric design. Robys builds the composition around this bold visual hierarchy, creating a masterpiece of French commercial art from the interwar period.
Reproduced as an archival print on 200gsm Enhanced Matte Fine Art Paper, depicting the poster's original lithographic character and saturated colour palette.
