The devil is sitting cross-legged in mid-air, drinking vermouth through a straw.

Leonetto Cappiello (1875 to 1942) designed the poster for Vermouth Cora of Turin. It belongs with his other single, fantastical figures on a saturated ground, such as the green devil for Maurin Quina in 1906.

Vermouth Cora was produced in Piedmont.

On the poster

A grinning red devil sits cross-legged, bat wings spanning the full width of a deep crimson ground, both hands around an amber bottle of Cora vermouth, a straw at his lips. The figure is flat cadmium orange-red, with translucent wing membranes streaked with darker veins, and the horned head glows against near-black flanks. Bold yellow capitals read "VERMOUTH" at lower-left, with "CORA" in larger display type at lower-right.

The Vercasson printer mark and a French visa stamp, 8075, sit at the base.
