The green devil clutches his bottle of Quina and glances sideways, with sly intent. Leonetto Cappiello (1875 to 1942) designed the poster in 1906 for Maurin Quina of Le Puy-en-Velay, an aperitif flavoured with cherry and almond. It was printed by Imp. P. Vercasson & Cie., 43 Rue de Lancry, Paris, under the contract Cappiello had held with Vercasson since 1900.

Cappiello trained as a caricaturist and drew for Le Rire and L'Assiette au Beurre before moving to posters.

On the poster

A green devil, limbs splayed mid-leap, with a spined head-crest and a curling tail, clutches a labelled Quina bottle against an unbroken black ground. There is no scene around him. Amber-gold slab-serif type below reads "MAURIN QUINA / LE PUY / FRANCE".

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
