She holds a tall absinthe glass up against emerald mist, and the lettering grows like a vine. Henri Privat-Livemont (1861 to 1936) designed the poster in 1896 for the Belgian firm Robette. J.L. Goffart of Brussels is credited on the sheet. It was selected as Plate 104 in Les Maîtres de l'Affiche, the lithographic anthology curated by Jules Chéret between 1895 and 1900.
On the poster
A semi-draped woman with auburn curling hair raises a tall absinthe glass, her arm extended against a deep emerald-green ground full of sinuous mist tendrils. A circular halo frames her from behind, and a column of pale ivy ornament runs down the left edge. In the upper-left, "Absinthe Robette" fills the space in large, organic, hand-lettered green capitals, each letter inflected with foliate curves.
