The nymph's chin is the spring. A thin white stream falls from it into the pool below, and the woman and the water read as one thing. Leonetto Cappiello (1875 to 1942) designed the poster in 1911 to advertise the seasonal bathing programme at Vittel, the mineral spring resort in the Vosges. Vittel had been a therapeutic destination since the 1850s,.

Cappiello had arrived in Paris from Livorno in 1898 and signed his first poster contract with the Paris printer P. Vercasson in 1900.

On the poster

A blonde water nymph rises from a deep navy grotto, face tilted up, eyes closed. Small flowering plants cling to the dark rocks on either side. Gold lettering above gives the season, 25 May to 25 September. Below it reads "VITTEL. GRANDE SOURCE."

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.
