A dancing woman in flowing grey ruffles holds the banner of Le Frou-Frou, her black corset and vivid skirt caught mid-swirl against Cappiello's bold yellow ground. The composition depicts pure movement through lithographic line and flat colour areas.
Commissioned by Samuel-Sigismond Schwarz for the inaugural issue of Le Frou-Frou magazine in 1899, this design marked Leonetto Cappiello's first poster commission. The humorous journal rivalled La Vie Parisienne with risqué cartoons and bawdy stories, perfectly matched by Cappiello's spirited advertisement.
This poster launched Cappiello's career spanning four decades and over 3,000 designs. The work established his signature approach: bold figures against contrasting backgrounds, revolutionising the painterly Belle Époque style of Chéret and Mucha.
Produced as an archival print on 200gsm Enhanced Matte Fine Art Paper using professional giclée printing techniques.
