Leonetto Cappiello (1875 to 1942), a Livorno native who worked in Paris from 1898, designed the poster in 1903 for E. & A. Mele. Mele was a department store in Naples. Ricordi, the Milan music publisher and lithographer, produced most of its advertising.

Cappiello contributed several designs to the Mele series.

On the poster

A woman in a floor-length red patterned dress, a grey fur stole over both shoulders and a green-feathered hat, turns towards a smiling man in a black tailcoat, top hat and white tie. He holds a cane. The ground is saturated forest-green. Bold yellow display lettering above reads "Novità per Signora" (New for ladies), and the large store logotype below reads "E. & A. MELE & Ci.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
