Cappiello La Fleur des Pois 1932

Three people in evening dress, a great deal of empty cream paper, and very few lines. Leonetto Cappiello (1875 to 1942) made the poster for Édouard Bourdet's four-act play La Fleur des Pois, staged at the Théâtre de la Michodière in 1932. Devambez printed it, and the imprint "Devambez, 164 Champs-Elysees, Paris" runs in the left margin.

Cappiello signed and dated the design at lower left: "Cappiello 32". He had settled in Paris in 1898.

On the poster

A blonde woman in a low-back golden-yellow gown leans toward a dark-haired man in white-tie dress, who gestures with an open hand. A second man in a black tailcoat turns away at left. The black of the tailcoats is laid in with broad strokes against the pale ground.

Each print begins with historic artwork, carefully restored using the latest digital tools and restoration techniques. Damage is addressed, colours refined and details recovered, while respecting the original composition, lettering and character.

The result? All the charm of the original, without having to live with its unfortunate accidents.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
