The woman is nearly all ball gown, with two tiny slippered feet showing at the hem. Leonetto Cappiello (1875 to 1942) designed the poster for Marie Brizard, the anisette house founded in 1755. Catalogues and dealers give both 1925 and 1928 for the design.

On the poster

A woman in an enormous crimson ball gown fills the sheet, the folds of deep red adorned with swirling ivory plume motifs. A voluminous headdress of red and black ostrich plumes rises above her tilted head. She hovers against a flat jet-black ground. At the foot, cadmium-yellow slab-serif lettering reads "ANISETTE" above the larger "MARIE BRIZARD". There is no setting at all.

Paper and print details

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
