Snow on one side, sea on the other, and a woman in a fur coat standing on the join. Jean-Gabriel Domergue (1889 to 1962) designed the poster for the PLM railway, around 1928. It promoted Beuil, an Alpes-Maritimes village 78 kilometres north of Nice, as a winter destination within reach of the French Riviera. Beuil's Club de Sports d'Hiver had been founded in 1924.

On the poster

The woman wears a long burnt-orange fur coat. To her left is a cream ski slope with skiers coming down in loose dress. To her right a flat cobalt Mediterranean holds two bathers on a surfboard, the water laid in parallel brushstrokes of deep blue and white. At the foot, "NICE BEUIL" is set in condensed white capitals over a deep maroon band, with "SPORTS D'HIVER SUR LA COTE D'AZUR" [winter sports on the Côte d'Azur] in gold beneath.

Each print begins with historic artwork, carefully restored using the latest digital tools and restoration techniques. Damage is addressed, colours refined and details recovered, while respecting the original composition, lettering and character.

The result? All the charm of the original, without having to live with its unfortunate accidents.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
