A mountain gorge opens between warm orange cliffs, revealing a medieval hilltop village crowned with an ancient tower. Snow-capped Alpine peaks rise in the distance beyond blue atmospheric valleys, while a vintage automobile winds along the cliff-edge road through the Cte d'Azur hinterland.

Designed by Roger Broders for the Paris-Lyon-Mditerrane railway between 1930 and 1932, this poster promoted the mountainous interior behind the famous French Riviera coastline. Broders spent a decade creating fewer than 100 posters for PLM, travelling extensively to sketch the landscapes he would render in his signature Art Deco style.

The composition exemplifies Broders' three-ground technique: dark foreground cliffs frame the view, a sunlit valley village provides the focal point, and distant mountains complete the upward sweep. His mastery of perspective transforms complex Alpine terrain into unified visual poetry that sold the romance of French mountain travel.

Restored from archival sources and reproduced as a fine art print, this poster represents the golden age when French railways commissioned artists rather than agencies to capture the soul of their destinations.
