The skirt takes up more than half the poster, and Machu Picchu sits behind it in teal. Mario Agostinelli (1915 to 2000) designed the poster around 1947. The drop-spindle, the Quechua textiles and the terraced stonework of the Inca citadel carry the Andean subject.

On the poster

A Quechua woman in a wide-brimmed flat hat and a voluminous cobalt-blue skirt stands in the foreground, a drop-spindle trailing a fine thread from her right hand. Behind her the terraced ruins of Machu Picchu are teal against a coral-pink sky, and colonial Cuzco fills the warm ochre middle distance. The design uses five flat, saturated colours. "CUZCO" is set in bold condensed navy type across a sage-green footer.

Each print begins with historic artwork, carefully restored using the latest digital tools and restoration techniques. Damage is addressed, colours refined and details recovered, while respecting the original composition, lettering and character.

The result? All the charm of the original, without having to live with its unfortunate accidents.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
