The Army had 239 kinds of jobs for women, and this poster picks one: weather observer.

Irving Cooper (1910 to 2010) designed it, and the U.S. Army Recruiting Publicity Bureau published it on 22 January 1944 (poster no. PC-88-RPB-1-22-44-50M). It is one of a series that matched individual WAC roles to individual illustrated posters. The Victoria and Albert Museum holds a copy.

On the poster

A WAC soldier in a tan Army Air Forces uniform holds a theodolite to her eye, its dark barrel filling the left foreground against a pale, cloud-streaked sky. Her USAAF shoulder insignia is clear, and the WAC Pallas Athene medallion sits at lower left beside a black panel reading "Weather Observer, Army Air Forces". A silver-grey strip along the base carries bold condensed type: "WOMAN'S PLACE IN WAR", "The Army of the United States has 239 kinds of jobs for women", "THE WOMEN'S ARMY CORPS".
