The conductor is solid black. His orchestra behind him is drawn in outline. PHI was the working name of Paul Nerfi, who is credited as the designer of this concert poster.

On the poster

A conductor in a black tailcoat stands at the front of the stage, arms raised, his baton sweeping a long diagonal across the upper half. A circular radio microphone hangs at the centre. The jazz orchestra behind him is drawn in loose burnt-sienna crayon outlines, violinists to the left and a double-bass player at upper right. The conductor is a flat black-silhouette against a radial burst of cadmium yellow and amber.

The whole design is printed in three colours.

Each print begins with historic artwork, carefully restored using the latest digital tools and restoration techniques. Damage is addressed, colours refined and details recovered, while respecting the original composition, lettering and character.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
