A helmeted US soldier charges forward, bayonet fixed, the dark navy ground behind him split by a shaft of white light. To his back, in cool monochromatic blue-grey, the American workforce: a woman and men at industrial machinery, smokestacks rising. The typography works in two registers, 'LET'S... Fight' in white sans-serif, 'ALL' in cadmium red italic singling out every American, and the footer 'BUY WAR BONDS' in heavy red slab-serifs across a cream band.
Produced by the U.S. Government Printing Office for the Treasury Department's War Savings Staff in 1942 (print designation WSS 508-D), this poster was one of many issued to support the wartime bond drives that raised hundreds of billions of dollars across eight campaigns between 1942 and 1945. The artist is not recorded in the GPO register. The design's logic is visual rather than rhetorical: soldier and factory worker are rendered as a single force, and the bond buyer at home completes the chain.
The decision to print 'ALL' in the same cadmium red used for 'BUY WAR BONDS' is the poster's most considered move. It binds the appeal to the instruction in a chromatic shorthand that reads across a room. Held by the Hoover Institution at Stanford, the V&A in London, and the UNT World War Poster Collection, this design is a documented piece of American wartime graphic communication.
