La Mouette is French for the seagull, and the seagull is the trademark.
It glides in over the waves on the right of the sheet. The poster was made for Etablissements Marcel Foucras, whose Grande Distillerie du Tarn stood at Carmaux, a commune in the Tarn department of southern France. The trademark was registered on 1 May 1915, the date the poster itself records. The design is attributed to Raoul Vion, a French illustrator, caricaturist and poster designer active from the 1910s to the 1930s, who worked mainly as a magazine illustrator and is linked in contemporary sources with the Société des Humoristes.
On the poster
A young woman in a long forest-green dress stands at the seashore, tilting a bottle of La Mouette Anis Supérieur into a tall stemmed glass. A herring gull skims in over rolling green-tipped waves with its wings spread. Bold red slab-serif type across the top names the brand. Golden italic below reads "Anis Supérieur", and at the foot "EN VENTE ICI" [on sale here] closes the design in the same red.
