A waiter in a red uniform rides a galloping lobster, one white-gloved arm raised to balance a tray of wine glasses. Albert Dorfinant (1881 to 1976), who signed his work "Dorfi", designed the poster for Duhomard's quinquina aperitif, which came in rouge and blanc versions. Dealers date it to the mid to late 1920s. Quinquina is an aromatised wine fortified with quinine from cinchona bark.

On the poster

The scarlet lobster fills the centre in flat cadmium red with black shadow detail. The waiter above it grins, and the teal tray in his raised hand carries two wine glasses, one rouge and one blanc. The ground is cream, bounded by a loosely sponged pale-blue border. "DUHOMARD" runs across the foot in massive red slab-serif with a heavy black shadow, and "QUINQUINA" arches above it in bold black capitals.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
