Butter gets the silver service here. Jean de Paleologue (1855 to 1942) was Romanian-born and worked in Paris under the signature PAL. This lithograph dates to around 1900. In the 1890s he had made posters for the Nouveau Cirque, for cycle makers and for liqueur brands. The sheet names L. Stern & Cie of Orbec, in Calvados, as the advertiser.

On the poster

A young woman in a red dress with voluminous white ruffled sleeves holds a silver tray of Normandy butter tins. Behind her is a softly rendered grey-green park. Yellow display lettering reads "BEURRE DE NORMANDIE" at the top and "GARANTI PUR" [guaranteed pure] below. At the base, large yellow slabs spell "L. STERN & CIE / ORBEC". The artist's monogram, PAL, sits at the lower right of the figure.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
