The hammer-and-sickle is the launch pad, and the rocket stands on it. The poster is credited to V.P. Viktorov and dated 1962, a year after the USSR launched Gagarin in April 1961.

On the poster

A silver multi-stage rocket rises from a monumental gold hammer-and-sickle set on a red plinth. The blast-off point erupts in a starburst of white and yellow, and a semicircular halo of radiating brushstrokes in cadmium orange and red fans outward into a deep navy starfield scattered with silver stars. Across the top, in three lines of bold white Cyrillic block capitals: "СОЦИАЛИЗМ, СТАРТОВАЯ ПЛОЩАДКА В ОСВОЕНИИ КОСМОСА!" (Socialism, the launch pad for exploring space!).

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
