Valentina Tereshkova was selected from 400 applicants in early 1962. Her Vostok-6 mission took place on 16 June 1963: she orbited the Earth 48 times in nearly three days, and her solo flight lasted longer in total than all US astronaut missions to that date combined. Designer unknown.
On the poster
Tereshkova, in a CCCP helmet, fills the left two-thirds of the sheet. Her portrait is a high-contrast black-and-white halftone against a cobalt blue starfield, and she gazes upward. On her white helmet, CCCP in orange Cyrillic. Behind her a bold orange diagonal carries the Vostok programme emblem, a white rocket-and-star device, and a small arrowhead banner reading "BOCТОК-6". At lower right on deep navy, three stacked lines of white Cyrillic read "СЛАВА ПЕРВОЙ ЖЕНЩИНЕ-КОСМОНАВТУ!" (Glory to the first woman cosmonaut!).
The sheet uses two flat colours and one halftone photograph.
