A cigar box, one cigar and a matchbox, and nothing else. Fred Neukomm (1905 to 1988) designed the poster around 1930. It advertises Splendid's Habana Rond cigar line. Neukomm worked in the Swiss Sachplakat tradition, the object-poster approach that isolates the product and renders it with precision.

On the poster

A yellow-and-black Splendid Habana cigar box, in three-quarter perspective against an unbroken cobalt-blue ground, fills the upper sheet. A diagonal black band carries "Splendid" in white outlined script, and "HABANA" and "ROND" are spaced in capitals across the box faces. In the foreground a single Havana cigar lies at an angle, its wrapper leaf shaded in warm chestnut-brown. A partial matchbox with red-tipped matches sits in the lower right corner.

There is no figure and no setting.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
