Venera 1 was launched on 12 February 1961, and this Soviet poster is dated to that year. The sheet lays out a chronology of Soviet spacecraft, from Sputnik 1 in October 1957 to Luna 1 in January 1959, ending with the Venera 1 trajectory. Designer unknown.
On the poster
A cream-white worker figure stands with arms raised, holding a gold laurel wreath that encloses the hammer-and-sickle, on a cobalt blue ground. To the right the Venera 1 rocket, marked "ЗЕМЛЯ-ВЕНЕРА" (Earth-Venus) with 1961 at its nose, climbs a pale gold diagonal beam. Along the beam are grey-blue silhouettes of earlier Soviet spacecraft: the Sputnik satellites and the Luna 1 probe. At the base, in bold orange Cyrillic: "ВО ИМЯ МИРА И ПРОГРЕССА" (In the Name of Peace and Progress).
