On 25 October 1917, a blank round from the cruiser Aurora's forecastle gun signalled the Bolshevik assault on the Winter Palace in Petrograd. The poster was produced in 1967 to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the October Revolution. The Order of the October Revolution, established on 31 October 1967, put the Aurora at the centre of its badge.
The ship appears twice on the sheet: as the large silhouette, and in miniature on the order's plaque. Designer unknown.
On the poster
The cruiser Aurora moves across dark water in charcoal silhouette, its three funnels and mast set against a crimson sky broken by white firework bursts. Upper right, in bold white Cyrillic sans-serif: "МЫ CЛАВИМ ЭРУ ОКТЯБРЯ" (We Glorify the Era of October). Upper left, the Order of the October Revolution is drawn large: a five-pointed red star, gold rays, and a central pentagonal plaque bearing a miniature scene of the Aurora at night, with a hammer and sickle at the foot and a red ribbon with five blue stripes descending from the corner of the sheet.
