Soviet 9th Five-Year Plan 1971

K. Ivanov1971

The 9th Five-Year Plan, for 1971 to 1975, was presented by Premier Alexei Kosygin to the 24th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. K. Ivanov designed this poster to promote it, in 1971.

On the poster

A male worker in a flat cap and dark overalls stands with both arms raised above a blue wireframe globe. His right fist grips a sweeping red banner lettered "9 ПЯТИЛЕТКА", and his left hand opens toward the viewer. Below him a silhouetted industrial skyline holds factory chimneys, storage tanks, a radar dish, a hammer-and-sickle flag and a red star. The palette is four colours: cadmium red, cobalt blue, dark brown-black and white, on a pale cream ground.

Across the top, in dark blue condensed Cyrillic: "ВО ИМЯ МИРА И ПРОГРЕССА НА ЗЕМЛЕ!" (In the Name of Peace and Progress on Earth!).

Our restoration process

History has wrinkles. We have standards.

A century or two can be unkind to a poster. Folds, tears, stains, fading and the occasional indignity of terrible storage.

Each print begins with historic artwork, carefully restored using the latest digital tools and restoration techniques. Damage is addressed, colours refined and details recovered, while respecting the original composition, lettering and character.

The result? All the charm of the original, without having to live with its unfortunate accidents.
