"Who Stole My Hat" is one of the questions drifting around a blindfolded man in black evening dress. C.A. George Newmann was a Minnesota-born mentalist and hypnotist who turned professional in 1896. He billed himself as a "psychic star". Standard Show Printers of St. Paul printed this poster, and its credit runs along the foot of the sheet.
The McCord Stewart Museum holds an impression (accession M2014.128.368).
On the poster
The blindfolded figure stands against a saturated cadmium yellow ground, right arm raised and one finger pointing skyward. Hand-lettered question bubbles float around him: "Will I Be Rich", "Will I Win My Lawsuit", "Who Stole My Hat". Bats and a black cat fill the lower field. Two flanking vignettes in tight crosshatched line work show the Egyptian pyramids on the left and the Great Sphinx with camel riders on the right.
A solid black header reads "That Brilliant Psychic Star, Newmann the Great", and the foot answers: "Ask Him, He Knows!"
