Michelin Bibendum 1900s

O'Galop (Marius Rossillon)1900s

Bibendum has a passenger: an Edwardian woman in a scarlet dress, waving to the crowd from behind him. O'Galop (Marius Rossillon, 1867 to 1946) designed the poster for Michelin in the 1900s. Rossillon had created the tyre-figure mascot for Michelin in 1898.

On the poster

Bibendum rides a black bicycle across a moonlit Parisian park. A smiling full moon hangs in a cobalt blue sky at upper right, and glass coldframe panels in the foreground shelter flowering plants. Yellow outlined block capitals above read "PNEU VELO MICHELIN". Below: "LE MEILLEUR, LE MOINS CHER" [the best, the cheapest].

Each print begins with historic artwork, carefully restored using the latest digital tools and restoration techniques. Damage is addressed, colours refined and details recovered, while respecting the original composition, lettering and character.

The result? All the charm of the original, without having to live with its unfortunate accidents.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
