Two dates are on the sheet: 9 February 1913 and 11 December 1914. Achille Mauzan composed the poster for Toselli & Co. of Via Monte Napoleone 18, Milan. Both dates are worked directly into the typography. Mauzan was at the Ricordi publishing house in Milan between 1912 and 1917, making lithographic commercial work.

He had trained at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Lyon.

On the poster

The ground is a deep crimson. Four caricature figures pile onto the platform of an ornate precision scale, and bold gold letters spell "LA NAZIONALE" in relief on the machine's base. The dial of the scale gleams silver.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
