La Grande Roue de Paris 1900

Paris is reduced to silhouettes, and the Grande Roue is the biggest of them. The Grande Roue de Paris was a 96 metre Ferris wheel built on the Avenue de Suffren for the Exposition Universelle of 1900. Designer unknown.

On the poster

Two allegorical figures in white classical drapery stand before the iron arc of the Grande Roue, scarves lifted in motion. The wheel fills the sky behind them in dark silhouette against a layered sunset of cerulean blue and cadmium orange. The Paris skyline shrinks to silhouettes at the horizon. Bold red hand-lettered display type fills the lower quarter of the sheet.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
