Howard Thurston dressed for the part: a floor-length cape lined in gold, knee-high boots and a turban with a crescent and star.
The Strobridge Litho Co. of Cincinnati and New York made the colour lithograph. It belongs to a group of Strobridge posters from 1907 to 1909 that promote Howard Thurston as Harry Kellar's successor. Kellar retired and formally transferred his mantle at Ford's Theatre in Baltimore on 16 May 1908.
On the poster
Thurston is shown full-length inside an oval vignette on a deep cobalt blue ground, arms crossed at the chest, gaze angled upward. He wears a forest-green tunic and wide-leg trousers, a rust-orange fringed cummerbund and brown leather boots to the knee. The sweeping cape is lined in gold with repeating cartouche medallions. A green and gold turban carries a crescent and star emblem.
