Harry Kellar and Howard Thurston appeared together in 1907, and this poster was made for that pairing.
The Strobridge Litho Co. of Cincinnati and New York produced the poster in 1907. Kellar was born in Erie, Pennsylvania. Thurston, born in Columbus, Ohio, was known for his card magic before Kellar chose him as his successor. The mantle passed in a ceremony at Ford's Theatre in Baltimore on 16 May 1908.
Thurston then carried on with the show until a stroke in 1936, and it needed eight railway cars.
On the poster
A young Thurston stands with his arms folded inside a pale blue oval vignette, wearing a dark green jacket trimmed in gold braid and an ornate turban of green, gold, orange and red. The regalia carries a crescent-and-star motif. Bold italic lettering arcs across the cobalt blue field: "KELLAR AND THURSTON". His name is set in gold block capitals along the foot.
