The globe shines so brightly that the woman beside it has put on sunglasses. Damiano Damiani designed the poster in 1949 for Il Globo metal polish, and it was printed by Officine Grafiche Necchi in Milan. A scroll banner in the top right says the product dates from 1897.

On the poster

A caricature woman in a red dress and polka-dot headscarf holds a tin of Il Globo metal polish aloft. White cat-eye sunglasses shield her from a glowing golden globe, all on a jet-black ground. Bold white slab-serif capitals fill the lower half of the sheet, and gold cursive beneath reads "Splendor di metalli" (Shine of metals). The banner reads "dal 1897" (since 1897).

Each print begins with historic artwork, carefully restored using the latest digital tools and restoration techniques. Damage is addressed, colours refined and details recovered, while respecting the original composition, lettering and character.

The result? All the charm of the original, without having to live with its unfortunate accidents.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
