Icilma Beaute Hygiene 1900

A serpent in a flowering tree dangles a bottle of Icilma over a naked woman, and its coils are lettered "BEAUTE" and "HYGIENE". Jean de Paleologue (1855 to 1942) was Romanian-born and signed his work PAL. He made this lithograph for Icilma, a beauty brand derived from mineral water that operated from 5 Avenue de l'Opera around 1899 to 1900.

PAL left for the United States in 1900.

On the poster

A nude woman, veiled only by cascading auburn hair, looks upward at a glass Icilma bottle that hangs from a white serpent's mouth. The snake coils around the tree. The brand name runs down the trunk in bold red capitals, and "5 Avenue de l'Opera · Paris" is set across the base in ornate red type.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
