A terracotta-red devil stands at full height behind a seated conjurer, and the conjurer is busy releasing doves.
Hija de E. Mirabet lithographed the poster in Valencia. It is a stone-printed half-sheet made for the touring revue that The Great Chang and Fak-Hong ran across Europe. The Great Chang was the stage name of Juan Pablo Jesorum, a Panamanian illusionist who had trained under The Great Raymond. Fak-Hong was his regular European partner. Mirabet's Valencia press made a series of stone lithographs for the company's shows: Japanesse Review, Oriental Review, Hari Kiri, The Bhuda and A Night in Tokio.
Each has the same cobalt blue ground. The word "Japanesse" is spelt as it is printed on the sheet.
On the poster
The conjurer wears a yellow-green floral robe and releases white doves and a burst of carnival flowers. The devil's grasping shadow is thrown across the cobalt blue field above. Art Deco display lettering runs across the crown of the sheet.
