The tandem is fully-laden, with bulging brown leather panniers on the rear rack. Henry Le Monnier (1893 to 1978) designed the poster, in 1938. He worked as a poster artist for the printer Joseph Charles from 1934 to 1943.

On the poster

A man and a woman in matching red jackets and white-brimmed caps pedal a loaded tandem along a French country road. Poplar trees line the background and a small white farmhouse sits to the right. Hand-lettered script at top left runs in two lines: "La route est belle!.. avec..." [The road is lovely!.. with...]. Bold red slab-serif type at the bottom reads "CYCLO-TOURISTE ERIOL".

Each print begins with historic artwork, carefully restored using the latest digital tools and restoration techniques. Damage is addressed, colours refined and details recovered, while respecting the original composition, lettering and character.

The result? All the charm of the original, without having to live with its unfortunate accidents.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
