Imps are putting on their own conjuring show around Direktor Kassner's portrait: spinning glass balls, scattered cards, a white rabbit balanced on a star. Alois Kassner travelled as an independent magician from 1911 and later built a show that included making twelve people vanish on stage. Adolph Friedländer of Hamburg lithographed the poster. The Friedländer firm produced over 9,000 designs between 1872 and 1935.
Friedländer printer number 6748 appears in the lower right corner.
On the poster
A bust portrait of Kassner sits in a cream oval medallion at the centre, on a navy ground. Around it the red-orange imps also handle roses, flags, ducks and coloured toy building blocks, and one in full robes plays Mephistopheles with a wand. A golden-yellow banner across the lower third carries "KASSNER" in bold green block capitals. Beneath it a flowing cursive line reads "der unvergleichliche Zauberkünstler" ['the unrivalled conjurer'].
