A bat-winged devil carries a white-robed spirit up out of a wooden cabinet, and an elderly man at the left recoils in shock. De Orm was billed as "Europe's Latest" on this poster. The McCord Stewart Museum dates its copy to about 1900, and the sheet carries a New York lithographer's signature.
On the poster
The devil's rust-orange wings spread across the upper half of the sheet, with the cabinet at the right edge. Below, a magician in black evening dress extends his hand toward a mesmerised man in grey, while a composed onlooker watches from behind. A second red devil crouches at lower right with long-fingered hands stretched across the floor. The ground is warm cream with a pale sky and sage-green headline lettering.
Bold dimensional capitals at the top read "DE ORM'S MARVELOUS MYSTERIES", and spaced small capitals at the base add "WONDERS IN HYPNOTISM PSYCHOLOGY &C."
