The masthead of Le Populaire repeats until it is almost wallpaper.
A man in an ochre jumper reclines in a red armchair with his back to us, a woman leans over with her own copy, and a child peers at the page. Leonetto Cappiello (1875 to 1942) made the poster around 1930 for Le Populaire, the daily paper of the French Section of the Workers' International (SFIO).
On the poster
A man in an ochre jumper reclines in a geometric red armchair, back to the viewer, holding open Le Populaire. A woman in red leans from above with her own copy, and a child at the left peers at the page. The masthead repeats across a saturated cadmium red ground. A charcoal band at the foot carries bold condensed white lettering: "Grand Quotidien Socialiste, Un Ami a Votre Foyer" (Great socialist daily, a friend in your home).
