A vast numeral 1, and a woman in a royal-blue dress leaping against it with a shoe in each hand. Leonetto Cappiello (1875 to 1942) designed it in 1933 for the Aurore shoe company. Devambez, at 144 Champs-Elysées in Paris, printed it, during Cappiello’s long association with Devambez, which began in 1919. The poster is catalogued as entry 484 in the Cappiello/Rennert catalogue raisonné.

On the poster

A red-haired woman in a royal-blue dress leaps against a vast numeral "1", a tan brogue balanced in her left hand and a black stiletto raised in her right. The field is cobalt blue. Bold white sans-serif capitals at the base spell "AURORE", and red capitals beneath read "LA CHAUSSURE DE QUALITÉ" (the quality shoe).

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
