Claude Alexander Conlin, who performed as Alexander, answered sealed audience questions from the stage while gazing into a crystal ball. Accounts of the act say assistants relayed information to an earpiece hidden under his turban. Frederic Eugene "Kid" Jones designed the poster in 1915 for Conlin's touring mentalist act. It was lithographed in several sheet configurations.
The McCord Stewart Museum in Montreal holds several Alexander posters from about 1915.
On the poster
A monochrome portrait of Conlin on a saturated cadmium red ground, his gaze forward and level. A striped cloth turban is fastened with an ornate oval brooch and topped with a spray of white feathers. Bold white slab-serif capitals run full width across the top: "ALEXANDER". At the base, the line answers: "THE MAN WHO KNOWS".
