The Atlantic shrinks to a handshake. Lloyd Myers designed the poster in 1917 for the British and Canadian Recruiting Mission, which set out to persuade British-born men living in North America to cross the Atlantic and enlist in British and Canadian forces. Albert Frank and Co. of New York printed it. The Smithsonian National Museum of American History holds a copy.

On the poster

A British Tommy in khaki, Lee-Enfield rifle in hand, leans across the teal Atlantic from France to clasp hands with a British civilian in a navy suit standing on the United States. The globe beneath them carries three labels: "GREAT BRITAIN", "FRANCE" and "UNITED STATES". Bold red-orange type at the base reads "COME ACROSS NOW."

Each print begins with historic artwork, carefully restored using the latest digital tools and restoration techniques. Damage is addressed, colours refined and details recovered, while respecting the original composition, lettering and character.

The result? All the charm of the original, without having to live with its unfortunate accidents.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
