The Statue of Liberty stands before three Allied flags on a poster printed in Algiers in 1943. Gaillet designed it, and Imprimerie Baconnier printed it. The French Committee of National Liberation was formed in Algiers in June of that year.

The flags are those of France, the United States and Great Britain.

On the poster

The Statue of Liberty occupies the centre with her torch raised, the three flags layered behind her in bold, flat colour. A globe fills the upper right, its continents tan against cream. Across the black sky above, the lettering reads "Pour la LIBERTÉ". Below, large cobalt inline capitals read "PAR LA VICTOIRE" (For liberty, through victory), with the word VICTOIRE spanning almost the full width of the sheet. The palette is limited to five tones.

Each print begins with historic artwork, carefully restored using the latest digital tools and restoration techniques. Damage is addressed, colours refined and details recovered, while respecting the original composition, lettering and character.

The result? All the charm of the original, without having to live with its unfortunate accidents.

Paper and print details

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
