Join An Irish Regiment WW2

1940s

Join the Modern Army, says the subhead, and the picture at the foot backs it with a dispatch rider on a motorcycle and a military truck. St Michaels Press Ltd of London printed the poster for H.M. Stationery Office.

No artist signature appears. Designer unknown.

On the poster

"JOIN AN IRISH REGIMENT" runs in three stacked lines of bold red capitals across most of the sheet, beneath a smaller navy subhead: "JOIN THE MODERN ARMY". Six regiment names follow in neat serif type: the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars, the Irish Guards, the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, the Royal Ulster Rifles and the Royal Irish Fusiliers. A flat illustrated strip at the base shows a dispatch rider on a dark green motorcycle, two officers reviewing papers, and a section of soldiers beside a military truck.

Our restoration process

History has wrinkles. We have standards.

A century or two can be unkind to a poster. Folds, tears, stains, fading and the occasional indignity of terrible storage.

Each print begins with historic artwork, carefully restored using the latest digital tools and restoration techniques. Damage is addressed, colours refined and details recovered, while respecting the original composition, lettering and character.

The result? All the charm of the original, without having to live with its unfortunate accidents.

Paper and print details

Good art deserves good paper.

Each poster is printed to order using professional giclée printing techniques and archival pigment inks on 200gsm enhanced matte fine art paper.

The natural white, smooth matte finish reduces glare while bringing out rich colours and crisp detail. The inks are designed for excellent lightfastness, helping the artwork retain its colour for years to come.
