The Berlin Olympics of 1916 never happened, because of the First World War. The Netherlands held national games in Amsterdam instead, from 31 August to 3 September. Jan Willem Sluiter (1873 to 1949), known for political cartoons and posters, designed this one. He drew it in flat colours and simplified forms.
On the poster
A chariot driver in a green toga drives four white horses at full gallop across an orange field.
