Six US Marines raise the American flag on the rocky peak of Mount Suribachi, Iwo Jima, against a vast sky that shifts from deep navy to golden yellow. The moment is frozen in time, rendered in bold strokes that capture both the weight of the flag and the determination of the men beneath it.
Designed by Cecil Calvert Beall for the US Treasury Department's 7th War Loan campaign in May 1945. Beall transformed Joe Rosenthal's Pulitzer Prize-winning Associated Press photograph into this poster just days after victory in Europe, when officials feared that Germany's defeat might reduce war bond sales.
This poster proved them wrong. The 7th War Loan raised over $156 billion, surpassing all expectations. The image spoke to collective patriotism at a moment when the Pacific War still raged and America needed unified support for the final push toward victory.
A historical document from the home front, when graphic design carried the weight of national morale. Reproduced as an archival print on 200gsm Enhanced Matte Fine Art Paper.
