A man and woman in factory uniforms extend five-dollar bills toward the viewer, their faces resolute against a blue Connecticut sky. Industrial buildings stretch across the horizon, smoke rising from chimneys in the productive rhythm of wartime America.

Designed by F.J. Lefevre and printed by Edward F. Weidl for the Hartford War Chest in 1943, this home front poster was part of a community-wide fundraising campaign. The Hartford War Chest served as the local branch of the National War Fund, collecting donations for the Red Cross, USO, and Salvation Army while supporting soldiers' families and local children's welfare programs.

The poster's direct appeal reflects the urgent reality of wartime fundraising: five dollars helped a soldier's wife find housing, kept a child off city streets for a year, or provided a week's care for homeless children. In 1943, that sum represented significant sacrifice from working families.

Reproduced as an archival print on 200gsm Enhanced Matte Fine Art Paper using pigment-based inks.
