A fisherwoman strides along the shore at Boulogne-sur-Mer, her basket heavy with fresh catch. The blue shawl billows against cream clothing, while her red-striped skirt catches the coastal light.
Designed by Leonetto Cappiello in 1912 for La Boulonnaise, the Bouclet Fils & Zunequin preserved fish company. This poster demonstrates Cappiello's evolution from Belle Époque decorative tradition toward the clean modernist advertising that would define the following decade. The composition reduces the fishing industry to its essential human element: the confident stride of the fisherwoman against the rolling waves.
Cappiello's technique, bold figures against simplified backgrounds, revolutionised commercial poster design. Where his contemporaries filled every corner with decorative detail, Cappiello understood that commercial art succeeds through immediate visual impact. This La Boulonnaise poster depicts that philosophy perfectly: a single figure, rendered with authority, selling a story as much as a product.
Reproduced as an archival print on 200gsm Enhanced Matte Fine Art Paper, preserving the lithographic quality of the 1912 original.
