Designed by Cappiello in 1903 for Swiss chocolate company Chocolat Klaus, this poster marked a revolution in advertising art. The Italian-born, Paris-based artist broke from traditional product imagery, creating bold symbolic design that became so recognisable customers asked for "red horse chocolate" in shops.
The composition exemplifies Cappiello's pioneering approach: simplified forms, saturated colours, visual surprise over literal representation. The image served as the company's logo for fifty years, establishing both the brand and Cappiello's reputation as father of modern advertising.
