Four men in black dinner jackets sit in armchairs of red, green, yellow and blue-grey, arranged in a circle on a warm amber-orange platform. An oversized jeroboam of Champagne Henriot rises above them at the centre, flanked by two coupes. A diagonal strapline in the upper left reads 'La Maison Henriot est reinstallee a Reims.' Across the lower arc, the brand name is set in large shadowed block capitals. The poster closes with the founding note: 'Maison fondee a Reims en 1808,' with Epernay crossed through as a pointed declaration of the house's restoration to its Reims home.

Designed by Roger de Valerio around 1925, this composition belongs to the French Art Deco advertising canon. De Valerio, born Roger Laviron in Lille in 1886, trained in architecture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and worked as art director at Le Matin before devoting himself to poster and illustration work. He produced designs for prestige clients across beverages, automobiles and transport, always in the flat, geometry-conscious style that distinguishes French commercial art of the interwar decades. The exaggerated scale of the Henriot bottle, towering over its four admirers, was a compositional choice familiar in 1920s French advertising: abundance made literal, prestige conveyed without a single adjective.

The Henriot house had been founded in Reims in 1808 by Apolline Henriot and had established itself as a supplier to the Dutch royal household by 1850. The strapline's reference to being reinstalled at Reims reflects the disruption of the First World War to the Champagne region, and the house's determination to re-anchor its identity in its founding city rather than the rival centre of Epernay.

Reproduced as a fine art giclée print on 200gsm Enhanced Matte Fine Art Paper. The composition is suited to dining rooms, bar areas and anyone with an interest in French interwar graphic design.
