A woman in scarlet rides a zebra while holding aloft an oversized chocolate bar, rendered against a rich purple background with bold yellow lettering. The composition depicts the carnival spirit of 1920s commercial art with its playful energy and saturated colour palette.
Designed by Leonetto Cappiello for E. Wedel, the prestigious Polish chocolate manufacturer, in 1926. Cappiello, often called 'the father of modern advertising', was at the height of his creative powers, having revolutionised poster design by replacing delicate Art Nouveau illustrations with bold, memorable images that could compete for attention on busy city streets.
The zebra was one of Cappiello's signature exotic advertising animals, used across multiple campaigns to create instant brand recognition. Here it serves the Polish chocolate company E. Wedel, founded in 1851 and still operating today as one of Europe's most respected confectionery brands. The poster's whimsical approach reflects the optimism of the mid-1920s, when luxury goods like fine chocolate represented prosperity and pleasure.
Reproduced as an archival print on 200gsm Enhanced Matte Fine Art Paper using museum-quality pigment inks. A natural choice for collectors of vintage advertising art or anyone who appreciates the bold graphic traditions of early 20th-century commercial design.
